Trip Details – Day 4
For the 4-day and 2-day folks, breakfast will be at the hotel or at the Waffle House on the way. For the 1-day folks, you will meet at Smokey Glen Farm (http://www.smokeyglenfarm.com/) at 7 AM. You will travel as a group to Riley's Lock on the C&O canal and then take the canal to Brunswick where you will meet up with the "Hagerstown Group" for lunch.

4-day and 2-day Group: Leave the hotel the way we came in: head left out on underpass way, right on Railway Lane, Right onto Massey. When you get to Halfway Blvd, however, turn LEFT. Stay on Halfway Blvd, going straight through US-11 (Virginia Ave). About a mile after that you will turn LEFT onto Downsville Pike (Rt. 632). In a little less than a mile you’ll turn RIGHT onto W. Oak Ridge Drive, and then you make a RIGHT onto MD-65 (S. Potomac Street). Take that down to the Waffle house (about one mile, after you pass I-70).Stop and eat at the Waffle House if you did not eat at the hotel. We continue in the same direction on MD-65 for several miles. We usually stop at the Antietam battlefield for a photo op. Keep going on that road until you hit the tiny town of Sharpsburg, MD. Turn RIGHT onto MD-34 (E. Main street). Go 2 blocks and turn LEFT onto South Mechanic Street. Go straight on this street and it becomes Harpers Ferry Road. Stay on this road for several miles. Look for Canal Rd. on the right and turn RIGHT onto the canal access road.

Harpers Ferry is the next photo op—about 12 miles from Shepherdstown. Brunswick is about five miles from there, and that’s where lunch is. A group lunch will be provided for a nominal cost to all.

Then back to the canal. The first mile or so is on a gravel road. Keep heading down the canal, past Whites Ferry for another 20 miles and you’re at Riley’s lock. From there we will have an escort to Smokey Glen Farm where the picnic will be held. It’s about an 8 mile ride to Smokey Glen Farm along Seneca Rd., Route 28 and Riffleford Rd.

1-day Group: Leave Smokey Glen Farm by turning Left out of the driveway onto Riffleford Road. At Route 28, turn Right and head toward Seneca Road. At Seneca Road (Rt.112) turn Left at the traffic light. Travel 2.8 miles to Rileys Lock Road and turn Left. If you go over the bridge you have gone to far. Take Riley's Lock Road to the canal and turn Right on the canal. The canal will take you all the way to Brunswick, about 40 miles.
